Hula Hoop Violin Girl Has Fun at Aviara Oaks Elementary

Portia Cannon having fun at Aviara Oaks Elementary Variety Show
Hula Hoop Violin Combination
The hula hoop violin girl pleased the crowd at the Aviara Oaks Elementary School Variety Show which closed out the 2012-2013 school year. This 8 year old girl performed Oh Susannah and She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain. Her performance was called "Fiddle and Fun". The video of her hula hoop violin act can be seen at http://youtu.be/ncp1kUmlasY. Many people can't do either hula hoop or violin by themselves, but she made both at the same time look easy!
There were many other enjoyable performances including dance, piano, singing, comedy, and magic. Emcees kept the show light hearted and moving along and there were group numbers for the different grades. Food trucks provided munchies to make it through dinner time and flowers were available to purchase to reward the hard working performers. A good time was had by all. We'll have to see what the hula hoop violin girl adds to her act next year.
Thanks to Robin Dye the music teacher and the PTA for putting on a great Aviara Oaks Elementary Variety Show.

Siamese Basil

This is by far the best Thai Restaurant in San Diego. My girlfriend and I stumbled into this establishment about 5 years ago. The interior is your basic "hole-in-the-wall," but the spice in the food is what makes this place stand out. I like my food very spicy and always order a 10 (the range is from 1-10, 10 being very hot). I was not disappointed. In fact, I started scaling down to a 9. The prices are very reasonable. If you are ever in Encinitas, this is the Thai place to try!

Carlsbad Country Day School

Carlsbad Country Day School opened around October 2006 and the word has spread about the high-tech, clean and spacious environment. This school is open to children from age six weeks to six years. They believe that play is the primary vehicle for children's learning and development in the early years. Furthermore, continuity of care (meaning the same teacher throughout the years at school) facilitates emotional development. To provide peace of mind, parents are able to monitor their child through the school's secure kiddie cam system. Other added benefits at the school are enrichment programs, healthy lunch and snacks, family take home dinners, and dry cleaning drop-off. The hours of operation are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. http://www.carlsbadcountryday.com/

Firenze

Firenze is an Italian restaurant located in Encinitas. It has a great, romantic, outdoor dining space with a beautiful fountain. The food is fabulous and there is a nice variety to the menu. The Risotto tri Fungi or the Ravioli di Portobello is scrumptuous. Dinner entrée is $14-$38. http://www.firenzetrattoria.com/index.html

Vigilucci's

The Vigilucci's Trattoria Italiana in Encinitas is by far my favorite out of the 6 restaurants owned by Roberto Vigilucci. The atmosphere is quaint and the staff is friendly. The service is wonderful and I highly recommend the Mezzelune d'Aragosta, ravioli filled with lobster and sautéed in in a rock shrimp cognac cream sauce. Absolutely sensational! Expect to pay anywhere from $12-$29 per entrée. http://www.vigiluccis.com/
